Presenting at TechEd 2005: ARC412 Packaging Design and Architecture Guidance for Visual Studio
It’s an honor to be there presenting a new framework from Microsoft patterns & practices (developed jointly with Clarius Consulting) that I believe is a significant step forward in terms of packaging guidance and productivity boosters for Visual Studio (formerly done almost exclusively as add-ins). The new programming model (relying on XML quite heavily but also on simple concepts that you just code in .NET) is much easier grasp and I’m pretty sure many will never write a VS add-ins again ;). For the past 6 months I’ve been the dev lead on a new framework coming from PAG, called the Guidance Automation Toolkit (or GAT). With it you’ll be able to package so-called recipes that can greatly enhance your developers experience and productivity, by providing guidance that comply with your own processes and rules. PAG will be using this same framework to deliver integrated assistance on using the different application blocks and frameworks it releases, so working with them will be much easier than in the past too.
